Happy Returnuary!
December 2024 is a wrap, friends!
The National Retail Federation reported that shoppers emptied their wallets in both in-store and online channels, with an estimated 157.2 million consumers participating in Super Saturday shopping spree, because who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned retail therapy session? Consumers shelled out an average of $1,638 on gifts, travel, and entertainment, representing a 7% increase YOY according to Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC).
Did you know that the first Monday after New Year’s Day has officially been named National Returns Day by UPS because it’s the day shoppers are most likely to return unwanted holiday gifts? Yup, it’s true. Happy Returnuary!
As we stumble into “Returnuary” retailers are bracing for the tsunami of buyers’ remorse. The National Retail Federation estimates a mind-boggling 17% of all that stuff that we just HAD to buy is coming back. Nothing says “Happy New Year” like waiting in return lines, right? 😉
